With just days left for the Tests vs India, team Australia are leaving no stone unturned to clinch the Border-Gavaskar trophy this time around. To add more, the Australians are camping at Bengaluru ahead of the first Test to prepare for the spin tracks and are toiling it hard in the nets ahead of the much-awaited series.
As far as the Border-Gavaskar trophy is concerned, it would go down as one of the most important series for Australia next to the Ashes. Apart from all other contests, the Tests between India and the Baggy Greens has a huge fan following, with a growth in viewership being witnessed after the Indian team’s victory in the previous two series encounters.
On February 2, Thursday reports emerged from the Sunday Morning Herald claiming that the Australian team are studying the footage of Axar Patel and the allrounder is being looked at as the greatest threat to the team. Notably, the left-handed batter is fast becoming India’s all-format player and is rising in stature with every passing day.
We've gathered our spinners in Sydney for strategic talks: Ian Healy
The mighty Australians are here in India and prior to that, they underwent various camps in their backyard to prepare for the series. Criticising India for the practice pitches, the former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy said that they no longer trust the Indian subcontinent and the board to assure them of a quality surface.
“We've gathered our spinners in Sydney for strategic talks as we no longer trust that the requested facilities will be provided for a nation. We've been part of this shenanigan too by the way, when we're over in England we spend our time whinging about weakened County teams that England put up as our opposition before the series,” Healy was quoted as saying to SEN Radio.
“Our focus in cricket has shifted from creating opportunities and experiences for our best up-and-coming cricketers and now we deny touring teams quality preparation before very highly anticipated series and I don't like it. It's disappointing to watch the dismantling of trust between cricket's nations and it needs to stop,” he added.
