Star India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik is set to be back in the commentary box for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Karthik who has worked in different roles on and off the field announced the same. According to Karthik, he will be back in the very unique avatar of ‘Weatherman’ during the series.
Making this special announcement 37-year-old batter wrote on Twitter, “The Weatherman DK is back on popular demand for India vs Australia. The first assignment is today at 5.30 pm on Instagram.” In the past, when Karthik provided commentary for England's tour of India in 2021, his timely weather reports went viral on social media.
Dinesh Karthik who made comeback to the team after the 2021 Indian T20 league has been used as a finisher by the team in the shortest format of the game. It's interesting to note that Karthik made his Test debut against Australia in November 2004. Although, He has played in 26 Tests so far. He last played an international game against Bangladesh in November 2022 during the 20-20 world cup in Australia.
India set to face the biggest challenge of 2023
Team India under the leadership of Rohit Sharma is set to face Australia in the most important Border-Gavaskar Trophy from February 9 in Vidarbha Cricket Stadium, Nagpur. In the four-match Test Rohit and co. will be looking to beat visitors to comfortably qualify for the finals of the Test Championship. Although, this series will be one of the most difficult events on home ground for hosts.
Both India and Australia will be playing without some important players due to injuries. India will be playing without two prominent members of their Test squad. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will miss the first two matches of the series while batter Shreyas Iyer will miss the first Test due to injury. However, Iyer and Bumrah can make comeback by the second and third test respectively, but Pant will be on bed rest after dealing with a car crash.
On the other hand, the Australian team will be playing without their two prominent fast bowlers in the first match of the series. Mitchel Starc and Josh Hazelwood will participate in the first Test match. Hazlewood is yet to recover from his Achilles injury in his left leg while Starc is yet to recover from a thumb injury.
