Cricket's governing body updated its ODI Rankings and Babar Azam has retained the number one position with an 892 rating. Rassie van der Dussen, the South-African batter has climbed up three positions and has ended up at the number three position with a 796 rating. Meanwhile, the former Indian captain, Virat Kohli moved down to 4th place with a 790 rating.
Virat was topping the list right from 2017 until Babar took it over from him in 2021. The former Indian captain is going through an extremely rough phase of his life while the latter is at the peak of his form. Virat has been a part of the top five since 2010. Babar, on the other hand has been consistent across all three formats and it can be said that the batter is at the peak of his form.
Second place is retained by Imam-ul-Haq, the classy batter from Pakistan with an 815 rating. Rassie van der Dussen has moved up to number 3 in the rankings replacing Virat Kohli, thanks to some classy innings in the recent past. The South-African batter has been giving his best for the nation in recent years and can be considered the most deserving candidate to be in the top 5.
Rohit Sharma retained his number 5 spot with a 786 rating. This gives a new aspect to the ODI format as it has some new names now. Fans would be hoping to see the best of the current top 5 in the future as well. And the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be hoping to bag the top 2 spots as they did earlier. If Rassie carries on with his form, then he might end up being a candidate for the number 1 spot. But for that, he has to be as consistent as Babar Azam.
New ODI Rankings:
- Babar Azam (Pakistan) - 892 rating
- Imam-ul-Haq (Pakistan) - 815 rating
- Rassie van der Dussen (South Africa) - 796 rating
- Virat Kohli (India) - 790 rating
- Rohit Sharma (India) - 786 rating
We'll have to wait for the time being to know if De Kock can once again make it to the top five or not.
