Alex Carey, the man behind making the ongoing Ashes series so intense by dismissing Jonny Bairstow, is all over the headlines once again. However, this time it was not his on-field act that brought him into the limelight. A barber from Leeds, the venue of the third Test, alleged that the Australian wicket-keeper batter got a haircut at his shop but did not pay him.

After Australia took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, one of the oldest battles in Test cricket history moved to Headingley in Leeds, where the third Test is now underway, with Australia taking a lead of 142 in the second innings. According to a report by The Sun, Carey went for a haircut at Doc Barnet’s Barber Shop along with his teammates David Warner and Usman Khawaja.

While the Australian openers paid and posed for pictures, Carey refused to pose and left the shop without paying. Barber Adam Mahmood said that the left-handed batter did not have cash in hand and offered to transfer the amount online as the shop did not accept card payments. However, in a chat with The Sun, Mahmoud claimed Carey had yet to send him £30.

"I’m still waiting. They all came in just before we shut. We cut their hair and had a great laugh. But we don’t accept cards and Alex said he had no cash on him. Well, there’s a Tesco cash machine literally round the corner he could have run to," said Mahmood.

Barber has given him the deadline of Monday

The barber further said that the cricketer could have taken cash from the machine, but instead promised to do a bank transfer. Meanwhile, Mahmood has said that Carey might have forgotten to pay because of the match. But he has given him a deadline of Monday - the end of the Headingley Test.

"Maybe he forgot. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt but if it’s not paid by Monday, I won’t be happy," Mahmood concluded.

Mark Wood removed Carey for 8 off 16 balls in the first innings of the third Test. He is yet to bat in the second innings and will be aiming to score some valuable runs for his team to extend the lead.
