Pakistan cricket team did not have a great outing in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. They finished at the bottom of the table in the Super 4 stage of the continental event. They lost back-to-back games against India and Sri Lanka. That led them to fail to qualify for the final of the tournament.
With their shocking exit, rumours emerged that Pakistan captain Babar Azam and the team's star pacer Shaheen Afridi were engaged in some argument. According to various reports, the No.1 ODI batter questioned his team's senior players' performances after the loss to Sri Lanka in the Super 4 match.
The 28-year-old batter was questioned and faced several criticism after their Asia Cup exit. He was asked about the incident on the day of Pakistan's departure for the World Cup in Lahore. He even warned his teammates to not think of themselves as "superstars". Adding that people will care less about them if they fail to perform well in the World Cup.
It's just a regular meeting, but sometimes it's portrayed as if we had a fight: Babar Azam
Babar explained that there are dressing room meeting that tends to happen when a team wins or loses a match. He said, "Respect is given to everyone. You see, whenever the match is close and we lose, it's just a regular meeting, but sometimes it's portrayed as if we had a fight. It shouldn't be like that. Respect should remain constant for everyone. We love each other as much as we do our family."
Previously Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed the rumours with a post on social media of himself with Babar captioning it "family" followed by a heart emoji.
The team's visas were finally cleared on Monday night and the side will be reaching Hyderabad via Dubai on Wednesday. Only Mohammad Nawaz and Agha Salman have played in India before. Pakistan will play two warm-up matches in Hyderabad on September 29 and October 3 before kicking off their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands.
