Fans witnessed yet another thriller in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, April 17. RCB overseas batters gave CSK bowlers a tough time while defending a massive target of 227, but they held their nerve in the end to clinch an incredible victory.

After winning the toss, RCB took an early lead when Mohammed Siraj dismissed the in-form Ruturaj Gaikwadย for three runs in the third over. But this did not affect the four-time champions, as the CSK batters have blasted the RCB bowlers all over the park since then. Devon Conway (83 off 45) and Ajinkya Rahane partnered brilliantly to provide the team an excellent platform. Rahane was dismissed in the 10th over after a 20-ball 37, but that paved the way for Shivam Dube to join the party.

Dube did not had a great outings in the previous matches, but against RCB, he was in perfect mood as he hit some of the biggest sixes of the evening and scored a brisk half-century. The left-hander launched his attack with a 101m six in the 11th over and he hit another massive six 111 meters in the 13th over. The 29-year-old departed for 52 off 27, but ensured his team reached a comfortable position.

Du Plessis, Maxwell brought RCB back in to the game

Chasing 228 runs, RCB suffered an early setback when they lost Virat Kohli for 6 runs in the first over. The pressure of the huge target cost them another wicket, losing Mahipal Lomror for a five-ball duck. After that, with Glenn Maxwell coming to the crease, the overseas batters of RCB decided to attack the CSK bowlers. Du Plessis (62 off 33) and Maxi's (76 off 36) carnage brought RCB back into the game as they put on a 126-run third-wicket partnership.

However, with 86 needed in 8 overs, the game was in balance and Maheesh Theekshana made a huge breakthrough by dismissing the Aussie star at the right moment. The RCB skipper also followed him in the very next over as he fell to Moeen Ali. Dinesh Karthik and Suyash Prabhudessai played a fighting knock in the end to take their team home, but CSK bowlers tighted the screws in the death overs. Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana were outstanding for CSK, taking key wickets in the end and not giving out easy runs.
