Wanindu Hasaranga (Source- Twitter)B-Love Kandy skipper Wanindu Hasaranga, with his all-round performance in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023, helped his side beat the Jaffna Kings by eight wickets. Hasaranga outclassed the opponents with his 3/9 in four overs, as Kings batted first and managed 117/9. While with the bat, he came in at third position and scored 52* (22), as they won the game by eight wickets.
Now in LPL 2023, Kandy, after the win, has come to fourth position in the points table with two wins in four games, whereas the Kings are in the third spot out of a total of five teams in the league with two wins in four games. Hasaranga, the Sri Lankan star leg spinner, who completed his 200th T20 wicket in the last league match of the LPL 2023, achieved this feat in the 151st game of the 20-over format fixture.

Talking about the match, it was a powerful performance by Kandy's side as they outclassed the defending champions and clearly dominated all departments of the game. Kandy won the toss and elected to field first, and dismissed opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the very first over. No batter from the Kings' side was able to score big runs apart from Dunith Wellalage, who remained unbeaten on 38* (27). With the ball, the two picks for the Kandy side were Hasaranga and Nuwan Pradeep, with three wickets each.
In the chase, openers of Kandy's side, Fakhar Zaman and Dinesh Chandimal, together added 31 runs. After Chandimal's wicket in the sixth over, Wanindu and Zaman together built a brilliant partnership, but the Pakistani left-handed batter was dismissed for 42 runs. Kandy's side chased down the target with 42 balls remaining as they ended on 118/2 in the 13th over.
In the LPL 2023, for the 10th match of the season, the Colombo Strikers and Galle Titans will take on each other on August 7 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
