Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam, was dismissed in the second over of the innings by Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Babar was given LBW out on 0 (3); the Pakistani skipper even reviewed the umpire's decision, but the decision was not overturned. These three ODI series against Afghanistan are taken as preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, which is set to be hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan starting on August 30.

The 28-year-old came in to bat after the dismissal of Fakhar Zaman in the very first over by Fazalhaq Farooqi on 2 (4). The left-handed batter was trying an expansive drive on a delivery that was swinging away from him. He paid the price as his wicket gave the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side momentum as they dismissed three batters within the 8th over. Babar got out on 0 (3) in the second over of the game as the Afghani spinner Mujeeb's final delivery of the over was missed by Pakistan’s star batter.

The ball struck Babar’s pad, and the on-field umpire didn’t hesitate in giving the star batter an LBW out. Later, after discussing with non-striker Imam-Ul-Haq he took the review. But it was wasted as the third umpire kept the on-field decision. The replays of the 28-year-old batter showed that the ball was going to the stumps. The DRS showed three reds and it was very evident that now the decision of the one-field umpire would be sustained. The Men in Green, with this decision, not only lost their skipper but also the crucial review.
