Rohit Sharma, on Tuesday, completed 6000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and, thereby, became only the fourth player to achieve the milestone. The Mumbai Indians captain got a fresh feather to his cap in the ongoing 2023 IPL clash between his side and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.

Rohit reached the milestone with a boundary off Washington Sundar's second ball of the third over. The 35-year-old is the third Indian to achieve this feat after Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. With 6844 runs, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain leads the chart, followed by Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan (6477) and Delhi Capitals captain David Warner (6109).

Rohit has played in all 16 seasons of the IPL and has appeared in a total of 232 matches in the cash-rich league. He was part of the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers (DC) from 2008 to 2010 before joining MI in 2011. The right-hander is also MI's all-time top scorer with 4844 runs. He is regarded as the most successful captain in IPL history, leading MI to win the coveted trophy five times.

SRH need 193 runs to register third third win of IPL 2023

Talking about the ongoing match, SRH sent MI to bat first after winning the toss and the Men in Blue posted a commendable total of 193 runs on the board. Like in the previous match, Rohit got his team off to a flying start, but he couldn't capitalize, being dismissed for 28 runs off 18 balls in the fifth over. Ishan Kishan (38 off 31) also played a decent knock, while Suryakumar Yadav (7 off 3 balls), once again, disappointed.

The brunt of the damage was done by the Aussie gun Cameron Green, who hit his maiden IPL fifty in just 33 balls. He along with Tilak Varma counter-attacked and put on a 50-plus stand for the fourth wicket to get their team in a good position. The surface is not that batting friendly and the SRH batters will need to show intent from the start of the innings to chase down the huge total.
