James Anderson, the legendary bowler from England, turns 41 today. Most of the pace bowlers would have retired at the age of 41. But the Lancashire bowler is still at his best even after turning more than 40. The longevity of the pacer is simply incredible. The pacer has played 183 Test matches, the second-highest for any player and the highest for a bowler in the longest format of the game.
In 340 innings, James Anderson has claimed a whopping 690 wickets at a bowling average of 26.35, a bowling strike rate of 56.71, at an economy of 2.79, including 32 five-wicket hauls and 3 Ten-wicket hauls. The 41-year-old is the third-highest wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket and is only 19 wickets away from surpassing the legendary Shane Warne in the longest format of the game.
A legend of Test cricket
No pacer has more wickets in Test cricket than Anderson. The incredible bowler is simply a legend in Test cricket. The record of Anderson in red ball cricket is so stunning that he is often underrated in Limited overs cricket, especially in One Day Internationals. In T20Is, Anderson played 19 matches and claimed 18 wickets for England.
In ODIs, Anderson played 194 matches and claimed 269 wickets at an average of 19.22, at an economy of 4.92, at a bowling strike rate of 35.63, including two 5-wicket hauls. These are very good numbers for a pacer in ODIs. The right-arm medium-pacer is the highest wicket-taker for England in ODIs as well, which is a phenomenal achievement.
James Anderson has been a part of many terrific wins for England over the years. Recently, England whitewashed Pakistan in Pakistan. Anderson played a crucial role in the series. The 41-year-old was part of the England team which won away series in Australia in 2010/11, India in 2012, New Zealand in 2008, and South Africa in 2004/05, 2015/16, and 2019/20. Anderson currently has 977 wickets in international cricket and will be incredible if he can claim more than 1000.
Here's how the fans reacted to the legacy of James Anderson:

It's like an end of an era for England and cricket as well when this duo will not be seen in England squad after next year when Anderson's also retires, the dedication of him for England cricket is unimaginable

Ab toh kuch sharam kar le Bumrah
I always thought he would retire before Broad. Guess he will retire. on reaching the magical 700 mark, or maybe he has Warne’s record in mind. A phenomenal pairing comes to an end.
