The tussle between India and Pakistan over the venue of Asia Cup 2023 is likely to be resolved soon. According to some media reports, Pakistan Cricket Board and Indian Cricket Board are swiftly trying to get a solution to host it across different countries. This comes after Pakistan Successfully hosted the 8th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
It is being learned that both India and Pakistan are working to host India’s matches outside Pakistan while other games will be played there. After a long standoff, both Boards are keen to get a resolution as Asia Cup is set to be played in September this year.
According to a news report in ESPNcricinfo Pakistan Cricket Board has agreed to host India’s game outside Pakistan. Most likely these games will be played in UAE but Sri Lanka, Oman, and England are other options that are being considered. Notably, if India qualifies for the finals then that game will also be hosted at a neutral venue. Although, the final call over it will be taken in the upcoming meeting of the Asian Cricket Council.
Earlier, In January 2023 ACC hosted a General Body meeting to sort this situation but eventually failed to convince any party. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in the last week of March 2023 and it may put a clear view of the hosting rights.
Pakistan has threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup
This standoff started way back in 2022 when ACC chief and secretary of the Indian Cricket Board Jay Shah said that India will not travel to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup. His statement set things on fire as Pakistan threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup. Notably, India is set to host the 50-Over World Cup in October-November this year.
Notably, Pakistan is swiftly restoring Cricket in their country after countries boycotted them due to security reasons. Pakistan Successfully hosted three seasons of the Pakistan Super League and international teams like Australia, England, and New Zealand in the last few years. Although, Asia Cup is one of the biggest cricketing events and that will boost Cricket in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, fans react to the news of hosting India’s game in England and call it a foolish decision. A Twitter user said, “England still making profits from the investment they did in 1947.”
