Asia Cup 2023: 3 players who could be surprise selections in India's squad

The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to start on August 30, but the most anticipated game is on September 2, when India will take on Pakistan in Sri Lanka. Whereas in the tournament, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal are taking part. All six teams are divided into two groups, A and B. 

India, Pakistan, and Nepal are in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh are on the opposite table. Pakistan and Bangladesh have already announced their Asia Cup squads. This year's Asia Cup fixtures are scheduled to be in the 50-over format. 

The Indian Cricket Board is delaying the announcement of the squad as they want to ensure the full fitness of every member. The ODI World Cup 2023 is from October 5, so Asia Cup remains the important competition to check the troops. Men in Blue will be looking to overcome its middle order concerns and bowling problems. 

Tilak Varma

The Mumbai Indian prodigy, Tilak Varma, shined for the Indian team when he made his debut in the T20I cricket series against West Indies. Despite India losing three matches in the T20I series, Varma remained the highest scorer from the Indian side with his 39, 51, and 49*. Despite the fact that the left-handed batter has not played 50 over the format for Men in Blue, he can be a crucial inclusion as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer's fitness is a concern. 

Prasidh Krishna

The right-arm pacer, Prasidh Krishna with a high-arm bowling action, made his comeback for the Indian team in the ongoing three T2OI series against Ireland. In the first game, he picked up two wickets in his comeback game. Prasidh was making his comeback from cricket after a year due to his injury, and most likely, if he performs well in this series, the 27-year-old surely be included in the continental championship squad along with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Mohammad Siraj as a fourth pacer. 

Ravichandran Ashwin

Star Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin played a crucial part in the last India vs Pakistan clash in T20I World Cup 2022, which India won as Ashwin hit the winning runs. But this time, Sri Lankan pitches must be considered. India will be playing all their games in the Island nation due to security issues in Pakistan. If the 36-year-old is in the squad, surely he will give good company to Kuldeep Yadav and can also solve Indian team's lower order batting problems.
