The Asia Cup 2022 has already seen a lot of thrillers and upsets with Afghanistan becoming the first team to qualify for the super-fours and India as well might join them if they manage to clinch a win against Hong Kong. In match five of the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka will compete against Bangladesh and both of them are coming on the back of humiliating defeats against Afghanistan.

Here's the match preview for the clash between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh:

Team News:

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka faced a humiliating defeat against Afghanistan the other day as the latter clinched a win within ten overs into the chase. The defeat against Afghanistan might have hurt Sri Lanka and they would look to bounce back in the next match against Bangladesh. The only concern for the island nation would be the experience on the Bangladesh side.

Dasun Shanaka will look to come up with a different strategy against the Bangla Tigers who let off the game against the Afghanistan batters the other night. Matheesha Pathirana must bag scalps under his belt to get things going for the island nation.

Players to watch out for:

1) Wanindu Hasaranga:

The spinner can contribute with the bat for a quickfire 20 or 25 runs. But most of his contributions come from the spin department and he must contribute with the ball to give Sri Lanka a chance to get through the next round.

2) Kusal Mendis:

The batter opened the match for Sri Lanka against Afghanistan and many opined that he must have come in the middle order for Sri Lanka. However, the batter must contribute with the bat to take the team to the next round irrespective of the position he comes into bat.

3) Pathum Nissanka:

Pathum Nissanka is Sri Lanka's in-form player and missed out on the opportunity against Afghanistan in their first outing in the ongoing Asia Cup. The match against Bangladesh on Thursday will be a great opportunity for the batter and is definitely a player to watch out for.

Predicted Playing XI: 1. Kusal Mendis(WK), 2. Pathum Nissanka, 3. Charith Asalanka, 4. Danushka Gunathilaka, 5. Bhanuka Rajapaksa, 6. Dasun Shanaka(C), 7. Wanindu Hasaranga, 8. Chamika Karunaratne, 9. Maheesh Theekshana, 10. Dilshan Madushanka, 11. Matheesha Pathirana

Bangladesh:

Bangladesh were so close to winning the match against Afghanistan on Tuesday (August 30) until Najibullah Zadran took it away from the Bangla Tigers. Shakib Al Hasan contributed well with the ball but failed to amass runs on the board.

Experienced pacer Mustafizur Rahman failed to contribute much with the ball and so did Taskin Ahmed who looked rusty. These players will look to make a comeback in the second outing against Sri Lanka on Thursday.

Players to watch out for:

1) Shakib Al Hasan:

The Bangladesh all-rounder and skipper did well with the ball as expected. However, he was also expected to contribute a lot with the bat and let down the team when it was most needed. This is an area of concern for the team and Hasan must look to correct it.

2) Mushfiqur Rahim:

The wicketkeeper contributed just one run in the previous match and the star is known for his hard-hitting abilities. Failing to capitalize and bank on his strength in the first match, he'll look to go big in the next outing against Sri Lanka.

3) Taskin Ahmed:

The bowler went wicketless the other day albeit he maintained a good economy rate. Ahmed must bank on his ability to contain runs if he fails to get a scalp and put pressure on Sri Lankan batters.

Predicted Playing XI: 1. Naim Sheikh, 2. Anamul Haque(WK), 3. Shakib Al Hasan(C), 4. Mushfiqur Rahim(WK), 5. Afif Hossain, 6. Mahmudullah, 7. Mosaddek Hossain, 8. Mahedi Hasan, 9. Mustafizur Rahman, 10. Taskin Ahmed, 11. Mohammad Saifuddin

Pitch Report:

The match will be played at Dubai International Stadium and it grips a lot at this surface. Spinners will be handy but pacers can make the most out of the bounce at first. Teams winning the toss must look to bowl and chase it later on.
