In an incredible turnaround, the world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka defeated the American Madison Keys after being 0-1 down in the Semifinal of the 2023 US Open. In the women’s singles event, Sabalenka was trailing 0-6 after the first set, which was surprising, given the class of the athlete. Sabalenka, who will soon be the world number 1 Tennis player, made a comeback in the following two sets and won both the sets in the tiebreaker. In the second set, Keys was all set to claim the match, as she was on her way to serve for the match. But in an incredible turnaround of events, Sabalenka held her nerves and overcame Keys to drag the match to the deciding set.

In the final set, the match went to the tie breaker yet again. Sabalenka yet again showed her prowess and defeated the runner up of the 2017 edition of the US Open. The Belarusian athlete will now face Coco Gauff, another American athlete, in the final of the women’s singles in the 2023 US Open. The 19-year-old Gauff had defeated Karolina Muchova in the semifinal of the tournament.

'I am proud of myself' - Aryna Sabalenka

Speaking about her win, Sabalenka said “I am proud of myself that I was able to turn around this game and get this win, because it was just incredible. I was just, like, 'Come on, keep trying, keep pushing, like, I don't know, do something extra. Just try to turn around this match. It really means a lot to be in the final of the US Open for the first time," and expressed her happiness over the win.

The Australian Open 2023 winner was happy to get over the line. “I thought that we would play tie-break up till seven. I was just all over the place. I was thinking that if I'm going to lose this semifinal, I'll be struggling with sleeping for I don't know how many days, and I was just, like, I don't want this to happen. I need some sleep," concluded Sabalenka.
