In the 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) hosted Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the nail-biting thriller, Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 13 runs as MI failed to chase 215 runs in 20 overs. Star India pacer Arshdeep Singh proved to be the go-to bowler for PBKS as he clinched two important wickets in the last over while defending 16 runs.

Earlier, after winning the toss MI skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first as he said that the pitch is batting friendly and they will look to stop PBKS below par. The decision went well with the team as MI restricted Punjab to 83-4 in the first ten overs. However, England allrounder Sam Curran and Youngster Harpreet Singh Bhatia hammered MI bowlers and helped their team to post a mammoth total at the end.

In the 16th over of the PBKS innings both Bhatia and Curran took on Arjun Tendulkar and charged him for 31 runs in an over. Bhatia in his innings scored 41 runs off 28 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. On the other hand, Sam Curran scored a brilliant half-century as he hammered 55 runs off 29 balls with the help of four sixes and five boundaries.

At the end wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma's 25 runs off 7 balls, with the help of four sixes, helped Punjab to post a huge total of 214-8 in 20 overs. Allrounder Camron Green and senior spinner Piyush Chawla went to bowler for Mumbai Indians as they clinched two wickets each.

Opener Ishan Kishan was dismissed by Arshdeep Singh for just 1 run off four balls. After his departure skipper, Rohit Sharma along with Camron Green tried to rescue his team. Green and Rohit added 76 runs for the second wicket before Livingston dismissed Rohit.
