In the ongoing Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Sri Lanka has the upper hand on Day 2 of the first Test after getting rid of Pakistani captain Babar Azam. The Sri Lankan bowler Prabath Jayasuriya dismissed the 28-year-old and gave the upper hand to the home side.

On a good batting wicket in Galle, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. The home side had no answer to the dangerous first spell of Shaheen Afridi. After 15.2 overs, Sri Lanka was 54/4. That’s when Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya De Silva framed a crucial 131-run partnership for the fifth wicket. It revived the Sri Lankan innings.

As Mathews was dismissed by Abrar Ahmed, Samarawickrama joined De Silva. The wicketkeeper batter scored a decent 36 and helped De Silva to get to his 10th Test hundred. Sri Lanka posted a total of 312 runs in their first innings.

Big wicket for Sri Lanka

Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Abrar Ahmed claimed three wickets each for Pakistan. Pakistan was also in trouble in their innings. Although Shan Masood scored a counterattacking 39(30), wickets fell from the other end. The Pakistani captain Babar Azam in his stay at the crease looked comfortable till he got out.

Prabath Jayasuriya bowled a delivery that bounced a bit more than Babar Azam expected it to. As a result, the ball caught the edge of Azam’s shoulder of the bat. The ball hit the thighs of Babar and quickly rose to the air. The wicketkeeper recognized the chance and claimed the catch comfortably.

Sri Lanka celebrated the big wicket of Babar Azam. The home side knew how dangerous Babar could have been. Babar returned to the pavilion with a disappointed face. It left Pakistan in tatters at 73/4. Later Pakistan lost their fifth wicket when Sarfaraz Ahmed was dismissed. Since then, the duo of Saud Shakeel and Agha Salman has revived the innings of Pakistan.
