MS Dhoni and Co signed off in style at Chepauk this season, defeating the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) by 15 runs in Qualifier 1 to advance to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final. The four-time champions continued their incredible run in the cash-rich league and entered their record 10th IPL final. Although the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) home fans didn't get to see those towering sixes from Dhoni's bat, they did witness some captaincy brilliance from the man behind the stumps.

As usual the sea of yellow rippled in the Chepauk stands on Tuesday as rumors swirled that this would be Dhoni's last dance as a player. Although there have been some hints about his retirement, the wicketkeeper-batter has not made any such statement. While this remains a hot topic in the cricket fraternity, commentator Harsha Bhogle couldn't stop himself from asking this question to Dhoni after the match.

When asked if Qualifier 1 was his final game at Chepauk, the 41-year-old usual did not give a clear answer, but did say he doesn't want to deal with that headache now because there are 8-9 months to decide.

"I don't know (about retirement), I have 8-9 months to decide. Why to take that headache now. I have ample time to decide. The auction is in December. I’ll always be there for CSK, where it’s playing or something outside. Frankly it takes a heavy toll. I have been out of home for literally four months now. Started practicing from 2nd-3rd March, so we will see," Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

"It's hard work of 2 months. Everybody has contributed"

Dhoni lauded his team's performance throughout the season and said that everybody’s hard work of two months have paid off well. "IPL is too big to say it's just another final. Used to be 8 top teams, now it's 10. I won't say it's just another final. It's hard work of 2 months. Everybody has contributed."

"I can be a very annoying captain, I keep shifting fielders 2-3 feet. Only request I ask from the fielders is, keep an eye on me. If there's a dropped catch there will be no reaction (from me), just keep an eye on me," he added.
