Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are having a great campaign in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), winning five of their first seven games and topping the points table. While this will surely be a joy for CSK fans, they will be upset inside as this could be their captain MS Dhoni’s last season as a player. Because of this, fans flock from different parts of the country to watch their beloved ‘Thala’ play, irrespective of the venue.
CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced off at Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 23, with the former registering an emphatic 49-run victory. Despite the fact that the four-time champions was playing an away game, the stadium was packed with Yellow Army. Even though Dhoni came out to bat only for the final two deliveries, he received the loudest applause of the night when he walked out in the middle.
Meanwhile, the cameraman, who never fails to capture Dhoni's special moments of on the field, shifted the focus to an ardent fan of Dhoni holding a poster that stated he had not watched international cricket since India's exit from 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final.
"Haven't watched international cricket since 2019 World Cup semi final. #No Dhoni No Cricket," wrote the fan.

A similar scene was witnessed during the CSK vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match on April 17, where a die-hard MSD fan held up a poster saying he had traveled from Goa to meet his idol.
“I sold my bike just to see Thala Dhoni all the way from Goa,” he wrote on the banner.
They are trying to give me a farewell: Dhoni
Meanwhile, there’s no confirmation that Dhoni will retire after the 2023 IPL, but there are rumours, and the 2011 World Cup winning captain himself has been dropping hints at retirement after each of their games.
After seeing the majority of seats at Eden Gardens packed with CSK fans, Dhoni said those fans came to bid him farewell, and he expects that the usual purple colour will return to the iconic stadium in KKR’s next game.
”I will just say thanks for the support, they came in big numbers. Most of these guys will come in a KKR jersey next time. They are trying to give me a farewell, so thanks a lot to the crowd," he said in the post-match presentation.
Here's how Twitter reacted:
This is nonsense... No player can be bigger than the game... Stop this andhbhakti. Stop making cricketers a hero let them be a sports person. Heros will not win you a world cup but a sports person surly will do.
