The likes of Cameron Green, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran racked in insanely high contracts at the ongoing Indian T20 league mini-auction.

But one buy that surprised a lot of people was Nicholas Pooran, who went for 16 crore INR to the Lucknow franchise. The dynamics of the auction made Nicholas Pooran demand a high price as he went to Lucknow in the end after being involved in a big bidding war with Delhi.

Lucknow have slotted him in as a good backup for Quinton de Kock. He did not have a good Indian T20 League last year as he scored only 304 runs from 14 games. Despite his recent form in the Indian T20 League and for West Indies, it was astounding to see him going for such a high price.

In the 2021 season, he had a season to forget in the Indian T20 League as he scored just 85 runs from 12 matches for the Punjab franchise. At both places, i.e, Punjab and Hyderabad, he failed to fulfil the role that he was signed up for and that was to go hard in the middle-order and hit big runs, in the end. He was also picked as a wicketkeeper.

He failed to do both roles successfully and thus he was released by Punjab in 2021 and Hyderabad in 2022. It has been a roller coaster ride for Pooran this year because he did not have a good run in West Indies colours too.

He was appointed as Kieron Pollard’s successor to lead the West Indies in T20 cricket, but it did not turn into a fruitful stint for him and he, eventually, stepped down from the captaincy after West Indies crashed out of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The fans were stunned when Nicholas Pooran was brought for such a high price.
