Alyssa Healy, Australian wicketkeeper and batter, has expressed her preference for playing for the Bangalore franchise in the upcoming Women's Indian T20 League. Speaking at the Australia Cricket Awards, she said, "It is going to be a very exciting period of 12 months, it’s going to be tough but exciting. (On Women’s Indian T20 League auction) Beggars can't be choosers, I reckon. I’m in the auction so we’ll see where I’ll end up but it will be a nice touch to go to Bangalore.”
The Indian Cricket Board recently announced the names of five franchise owners for the Women’s Indian T20 League. The rights for the teams were sold for a total of Rs. 4669.99 crores, which is significantly higher than the Indian T20 League rights back in 2008.
The Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals entered the Women’s Indian T20 League with bids of Rs 912.99 crore, Rs 901 crore, and Rs 810 crore, respectively. The most expensive franchise was the Ahmedabad team, which was purchased by Adani Sportsline for Rs 1289 crore. The Lucknow franchise was purchased by Capri Global Holdings for Rs 757 crore.
The Indian Cricket Board recently sold the media rights to the Women’s Indian T20 League to Viacom18 for Rs 951 crore, or Rs 7.09 crore per match for five years.
The Adani Group, which failed to purchase an Indian T20 League team in 2021, has officially entered the Indian cricket world by securing a Women’s Indian T20 League team. The Women’s Indian T20 League is a highly anticipated tournament and is expected to be a massive occasion for India in women's cricket.
Mithali Raj appointed Gujarat mentor
Elsewhere, former India women's captain, Mithali Raj has been appointed as the mentor for the Gujarat franchise in the upcoming Women's T20 League. “The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League is a fantastic move for women’s cricket. The involvement of the Adani Group is a massive boost for the sport as well. Women’s cricket is growing steadily. This kind of impetus will undoubtedly encourage young women to consider taking up cricket professionally,” said Ms Mithali Raj, ex-Skipper of the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team.
