Saudi Arabia are looking to add one more world-class player in their account as Al-Hilal are reportedly set to offer Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi a whopping €220 million per year deal. Earlier, Al-Nassr brought in Cristiano Ronaldo for £177m per year ($215m) and to match the Portugal captain's package, Al-Hilal offered a similar package to Messi to lure the Argentine to Riyadh.
According to Marca, Al-Hilal currently have a transfer ban but will be free to sign Messi in the summer. The Riyadh-based club is determined to replace Ronaldo with Messi as the face of Saudi Arabian football. Meanwhile, the Saudi government is also ready to change the salary cap laws to facilitate the arrival of the 2022 World Cup winner.
Messi's contract with PSG expires in the summer and it is understood that a final agreement has yet to be reached, although renewal talks are ongoing. Fans are eyeing the possibility of the Argentina skipper moving to the Middle East as he is already Saudi Arabia's tourism ambassador and has traveled to the Gulf nation on several occasions for promotional activities.
Will Messi be ready to leave the European leagues?
Meanwhile, his father and agent Jorge Messi was spotted in Riyadh on Tuesday, fueling ongoing transfer speculation. However, it remains to be seen whether the 35-year-old will be ready to depart from the top five European leagues. There were also reports that Messi wants to continue playing in the Champions League for at least one more season.
Football fans around the world will be delighted to see Messi team up with his long-time rival Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia as the two are always great to watch. The Al Nasser forward has joined for two-and-a-half seasons, but Messi will be offered a one-year deal as per Marca.
The Golden Ball winner of Qatar 2022 World Cup has also been linked with a return to his former club Barcelona and David Beckham's MLS club Inter Miami. According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Messi is Inter Miami’s main target.
“He has clearly become the number one priority of Jorge Mas, the main owner of Inter Miami. The first talks date back to June 2021, before Messi signed for PSG. Since then, talks have resumed and Jorge Mas spent a lot of time with Messi’s entourage during the World Cup in Qatar in December," the L’Equipe explained.
