Shubman Gill was the anchor for India, chasing a target of 266 against Bangladesh in their Asia Cup 2023 encounter. He scored a brilliant century on a difficult wicket against the Bangla Tigers in the Super 4 match of the ongoing Asia Cup. It is his 5th century in ODI cricket.

KL Rahul had managed to stay with him in the middle for a considerable period of time. The pair put up 57 runs for the third wicket. Although India is already into the final of the Asia Cup 2023 where they meet Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, the last Super 4 match between India and Bangladesh is no less interesting.

Shubman Gill lone fighter for India

Rohit Sharma chose to field against Bangladesh. The Men in Blue made five changes Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah were out. Taking their places in the line-up were Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Shami, and Shardul Thakur.

Batting first, the Bangladesh batters could not match the Indian pacers and lost their wickets early. A partnership of 100 runs between Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy helped Bangladesh set a challenging score of 265 ahead of India.

In reply, India lost their captain without scoring, and debutant Tilak Varma failed to have an impact on his ODI debut. India lost two wickets for just 17 runs. Gill, along with KL Rahul, made a decent partnership. Gill got no support from other batters. But he stuck on the other side and scored a brilliant century. It was his 6th century in this year.

Recently, he moved up to a career-best No. 2 in the Men's ODI rankings for men's batters, with only Babar Azam ahead of him. The 23-year-old, in the process, crossed 1000 runs in the format in the calendar year 2023. In 17 ODI matches that he has played so far this year, Gill has now scored more than 1000 runs with an average above 71 and a strike rate of more than 100. His innings consisted of six fours and four sixes.
