It's fair to say that Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) entry into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 playoffs was snuffed out by Subhman Gill more than Gujarat Titans (GT) as the 23-year-old punished the bowlers with his magnificent century in a crucial game. Virat Kohli rescued his team with a record century amid a batting collapse, but the target of 198 was not secure at Chinnaswamy, and Gill's second IPL ton carried GT to victory, dashing RCB's hopes of ending their trophy drought.

The former RCB captain, who was seen sitting dejected in the RCB dugout after the loss, took to his social media handle to post an emotional note two days after their heartbreaking exit from IPL 2023. The ace batter expressed his gratitude to RCB fans for their overwhelming support and also thanked the coaching staff and the management. The comment section of his post was filled with love and support, but the three emojis from the man who ended RCB's journey stood out.

"A season which had it’s moments but unfortunately we fell short of the goal. Disappointed but we must hold our heads high. To our loyal supporters, grateful for backing us every step of the way," Kohli wrote in his tweet. "A big thank you to the coaches, management and my teammates. We aim to be back stronger," he added in the comment section.

Replying to the 34-year-old's post, Gill commented the KING emoji thrice as gesture of appreciation for 'King' Kohli.

Gill, sister face abuse and death threats following RCB's exit from IPL 2023

Losing the early wicket of Wriddhiman Saha, Gill and Vijay Shankar put on a massive 123-run partnership that almost sealed the game for the visitors. RCB made a breakthrough by dismissing Shankar in the 15th over and added a couple more wickets, but Gill stayed unbeaten till the end to win the game by eight wickets. Hours after the 23-year-old's match-winning knock favoured Mumbai Indians (MI) to qualify for the playoffs, some dejected RCB 'fans' took to social media to abuse and threaten Gill and his sister.

A Twitter user identified ‘VamosVirat’ posted a picture on Twitter of a burnt car with a caption, “should have been Gill’s car man”. While one 'fan' wished physical harm on Gill and labelled his sister Shahneel Gill a ‘transgender’, another user (@gayle_vishnu) wished for the death of the cricketer.

Some of the them took to Instagram and flooded with hate comments under Shahneel’s post. One user prayed for her brother’s death, while another dubbed her as a ‘prostitute’.
