Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis continued his outstanding form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, smashing his sixth half-century of the season against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium. The South African legend currently holds the Orange Cap and is far ahead of the others on the list.

The opening batter hasn't been dismissed in single figures this season, and has led the team's batting unit from the front by providing a great start with his partner Virat Kohli. Du Plessis has also achieved a feat for his franchise during the ongoing match vs MI, becoming the second-fastest to score 1000 runs for the franchise in the history of the league, surpassing Glenn Maxwell and Jacques Kallis.

Du Plessis-Maxi rescue RCB once again

Talking about the match, MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and sent RCB to bat first on a pitch that has historically favoured the chasing side. Jason Behrendroff gave the host a perfect start by removing Kohli for just 1 off the final ball of the first over. The Australian pacer gave took his second wicket of the night by dismissing Anuj Rawat in the third over. However, skipper du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell steadied the ship by finding some quick runs for the visitors.

Du Plessis should have gone for a golden duck had Nehal Vadhera not dropped a catch at mid-wicket. The mis-field turned out to be very costly as the 38-year-old went on to smash 65 off 41 balls. The dangerous third wicket stand of 120 runs was interrupted by the star bowler of the night Behrendroff, who dismissed Maxi for 68 runs off 33 balls.

Bangalore were 131/2 at the end of the 12th over and could have hoped for a total of around 210. But a brilliant comeback from the MI bowlers restricted their opponents to 199-6 in 20 overs. Meanwhile, MI has begun their chase on a solid note and maintains the required run rate. Both teams now have 10 points, and a win in today's game is crucial for them to keep their playoff hopes alive.
