Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Delhi Capitals by 9 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 29, avenging their setback in the previous encounter this season. Mitchell Marsh's all-round heroics went in vain as SRH players dominated in all the departments to break DC's two-game winning streak in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
Opting to bat first, SRH kept losing wickets at regular intervals but opener Abhishek Sharma steadied the ship at one end with a brilliant half-century. While Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi and skipper Aiden Markram struggled, Abhishek Sharma looked like playing on a different surface. Harry Brook was demoted to the middle order, but he disappointed again, as Mitchell Marsh sent him back for a two-ball duck.
DC got back into the game as Abhishek was dismissed for 67 (36) and Marsh took four wickets for just 27 runs. But Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad fired in the dying overs to ensure their side reach a competitive total of 197.
Spinners brought SRH back into the game
Chasing a huge total, the hosts suffered a major setback in the first over when Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed DC captain David Warner for a two-ball duck. However, that did not affect the momentum of DC as Mitchell Marsh and Philip Salt put on a stunning partnership, adding 112 runs for the second wicket. At one stage, it looked like the two would finish off the things, but when SRH skipper Aiden Markram chose to go with a spin attack, the game turned in their favour.
Right-arm spinner Mayank Markande dismissed Salt in the 12th over to give the visitors a massive breakthrough. After that, Abhishek Sharma dismissed Manish Pandey and Akeal Hossain sent back the dangerous Mitchell Marsh for 63 (39). Markande picked his second wicket of the night by dismissing Priyam Garg in the 16th over. Axar Patel then played some shots but by then SRH were in full control of the game and their innings ended at 188-6.
SRH registered their third win of the tournament and overtook Mumbai Indians to the eighth spot in the points table. Meanwhile, DC remain at the bottom of the table with two wins and six losses in eight games.
