Bangladesh created history on Saturday (June 17) with a crushing 546-run win over Afghanistan in the one-off Test at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh recorded the third-best overall Test victory in history thanks to Najmul Hossain Shanto's hundreds in both innings and a great collective bowling effort. It is also the biggest margin of victory in terms of runs in the 21st century.

Afghanistan, who had just returned from a thrashing by England in a one-off Test, had a similar experience against the Bangla Tigers. Chasing a mammoth target of 661, Afghanistan, who resumed at an overnight score of 45/2, needed something miraculous to happen, not to win, but to stay in the game. Afghans were without their best player -Rashid Khan - but that was no excuse for their miserable loss as they were blown away for 115 runs in the final innings.

Shanto's brilliant hundred, and Edabot Hossain's 4-fer set the tone for Bangladesh

Earlier, on the back of Shanto's brilliant hundred (146 off 175 balls) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy's half-century, Bangladesh scored 382 in the first innings. Nijat Massod excelled as well, with the Afghan medium pacer taking five wickets. In response, Edabot Hossain's four-wicket haul, Shoriful Islam, Taijul Islam, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz's two wickets held Afghanistan to 146-10.

Bangladesh batters wanted to ensure that the opposition never came close to them as they continued to make the bowlers sweat hard in the second innings as well. Having already taken a commanding lead, they scored 425 runs to knock Afghanistan out of the game. Shanto smashed another ton, while Monimul Haque also notched up the triple-figure mark.

Taskin Ahmed led the show with a career-best 4/37 to hand Afghanistan a humiliating defeat. Shoriful Islam, who took three wickets, gave an early setback by removing opener Ibrahim Zadran for a golden duck in the very first ball. Only three Afghanistan batters got to double figures as Bangladesh bowlers were on the money throughout the innings. Mehidy Hasan and Edadot claimed one wicket each.
