Pakistan’s cricket middle order batter, Fawad Alam, has moved to the USA to play cricket and quit his 15-year-long international career with Pakistan. Fawad will likely represent the Chicago Kingsmen in the Minor League Cricket T20 Tournament. Alam made his debut for Pakistan in the ODI format in 2007, and he played 19 Tests and 38 ODIs for the Men in Green.
Interestingly, the left-handed batter is not the first Pakistani player to make such a decision, in the past, Sami Aslam, Hammad Azam, Mohammad Mohsin, and Saif Badar were the ones who shifted to the USA before Alam to protect their careers and look for better opportunities. Alam made his 20-over format debut against Kenya in Nairobi in 2007.
Fawad Alam made his Test debut with legends of Pakistan cricket in the middle-order position-
The 37-year-old made his Test debut later in his career, two years after his T20I debut, against Sri Lanka. In the longer format of the game, Mohammad Yousuf, Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, and Misbah-ul-Haq were in the squad in his debut game, so it was evident he would not be getting many opportunities in front of these batters.
Anyway, he played a total of 19 Tests in which he scored 1011 runs with an average of 38.88, including five centuries. As his career went on, he got opportunities in the limited overs format rather than in Test cricket.
It is pertinent to mention that Alam's fame and glory came from his unorthodox batting stance, he had an open-chested batting style. Alam was also in Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup squad, which clinched the title.
However, his last effort for Pakistan came in 2022, when he was selected for Australia and Sri Lanka, but the Karachi-born cricketer didn’t perform well and was later excluded from the squad. At that time, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector Muhammad Wasim said that Fawad was left out due to poor performance. Now it will be interesting to see how his career will develop in the USA as a ‘local player’.
Here is how fans react as Fawad Alam quits Pakistan cricket to play for USA-

It's great that they're doing that because Pakistan as a country is in shambles, & will be for next 20-30 years at least. So, it's a great thing that they've realized how difficult it's going to be to live in country like Pakistan as a domestic player—USA is money & chances.
