Sri Lanka’s star leg spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga, has taken retirement from Test cricket after playing four Tests in his career. He informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) of his decision, as reported, Hasaranga has taken this decision to prolong his limited-overs cricket career.

The all-rounder has been a player in demand, especially in T20 cricket. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auctions, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) purchased him for Rs. 10.75 crores for the 16th edition of the cash-rich league. However, the left-handed batter has played only four Test matches for the Island nation, but he has represented his national side in 48 ODIs and 58 T20I games so far in his career.

“We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be a vital part of our white-ball program going forward,” said Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, in the press release.
