Rajasthan Royals have moved to the top of the points after registering another victory in IPL 2023. On Wednesday, they defeated Chennai Super Kings by 3 runs in another last-ball thriller of the season at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. RR posted a total of 175 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the first innings. In reply, CSK could only reach 172 in their 20 overs losing 6 wickets

Batting first, RR lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early at the score of 11 runs in 1.4 overs. After that, Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal put up a partnership of 77 runs for the second wicket. Padikkal got out after scoring 38 off 26 hitting five boundaries. A couple of deliveries later, skipper Sanju Samson got bowled by Ravindra Jadeja for a duck.

After that, Buttler and Ravichandran Ashwin added 47 runs for the fourth wicket. Ashwin got out after scoring 30 off 22, while Buttler scored another half-century in the ongoing season and got out after a well-made 52 off 36 hitting one four and three sixes. Shimron Hetmyer added some finishing touches as RR crossed 170 runs losing 8 wickets. For CSK, Akash Singh, Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja took 2-2 wickets each, while Moeen Ali put 1 in his bag.

MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja couldn't take CSK down the line

Chasing the winning total, CSK lost the first wicket at the score of 10 runs as Sandeep Sharma dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad, who ended up giving a catch to Jaiswal at covers in the second ball of the third over. After that, Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane added 68 runs for the second wicket.

Ajinkya Rahane got out after scoring 31 off 19 with two fours and a maximum, while Conway scored 50 runs off 38 balls, hitting six boundaries before getting out in the last ball of the 16th over by Yuzvendra Chahal. CSK started losing regular wickets as they were reduced to 113 for 6 after 16 overs.

After that, skipper MS Dhoni and Jadeja took the match to the last over by putting up an unbeaten partnership of 59 runs for the seventh wicket. However, it wasn’t enough for the home team they fell short of just 3 runs from RR’s total.

Dhoni remained unbeaten on 32 runs off 17 balls, hitting one four and three sixes, while Jadeja scored 25 off 15. Chahal and Ashwin took 2-2 wickets each for RR, while Sandeep Sharma and Adam Zampa shared a wicket each.
