Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian cricket sensation, has been appointed as the vice captain of Team India for the upcoming Asia Cup in 2023. This decision comes as no surprise to cricket enthusiasts and experts who have witnessed Bumrah's exceptional skills and leadership qualities on the field.
Bumrah's journey in international cricket has been nothing short of remarkable. Since his debut in 2016, he has consistently delivered outstanding performances, becoming one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket. His unique bowling action and ability to generate pace and movement have troubled even the best batters in the game.
Apart from his bowling prowess, Bumrah has also displayed excellent temperament and maturity on numerous occasions. He remains calm under pressure situations and often takes charge when it matters most. These qualities make him an ideal candidate for the role of vice-captain, where he can provide valuable guidance to his teammates both on and off the field.
Jasprit Bumrah is all fit and set to play all formats with no injury concerns
Bumrah has been out of action for the past 11 months due to an injury sustained during the ODI series against Australia in September 2022. He missed the T20 World Cup 2022 and the Indian Premier League 2023 while undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The 29-year-old just returned from injury and led Team India in the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the Ireland vs India T20I series. He had a great comeback and few records in the first T20I against Ireland and led the team to victory by leading the series 1-0.
India opens their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan on September 2, before playing Nepal on September 4. Both games will be played in Pallekele, with the top two sides of the group progressing through to the Super 4s, where they will play three more games. After the Asia Cup, India will also play three ODIs at home against Australia prior to opening their World Cup campaign, also against Australia, on October 8 in Chennai.
