According to reports, star Indian batter, KL Rahul is set to join the Indian team in the Asia Cup 2023 squad. As he has got medical clearance from the Apex body of Indian cricket, Rahul is likely to fly to Sri Lanka. The 31-year-old has been out of action since hurting his thigh in the middle of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. After that, Rahul was operated on and did rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. 

The wicketkeeper cum batter was selected for the Asia Cup 2023 squad but didn’t get medical assurance, and as informed by the Indian head coach, Rahul Dravid will not participate in the first two games of Men in Blue in the continental championship. The 31-year-old was spending time in NCA as the other members of the squad travelled to Sri Lanka to play their first game against Pakistan in Pallekele. 

Whereas in the first game, the match was called off due to rain after the first innings, and the Rohit Sharma-led side won the toss and batted first, India, after the early blows by Pakistan bowlers, recovered well and posted a total of 266/10 in 48.5 overs in the Asia Cup 2023. The Men in Blue's chances of getting a good score were shattered after their top-order batters Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill departed within the 15 overs of the game. 

KL Rahul will have a hard time finding his place in the squad- 

However, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya had different plans altogether as they stood in the crease and added 138 runs together to take India 66-4 to 205-5, they together batted brilliantly and attacked the spinners and kept rotating strike against the pacers. Ishan was dismissed for 82 runs by Haris Rauf and Pandya's innings was cut short by Shaheen Shah Afridi on 87 (90). 

In the end, Pakistan won their first game against Nepal and after the points were shared in this game, the Men in Green remained at the top of the table while the Indian side opened their account in Group A. Now the Indian side will play Nepal at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka on September 4.
