Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma is having a bad run with the bat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. So far, he has scored just one half-century in 10 innings and registered his second consecutive duck in the tournament. However, ahead of their high-profile clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday, MI all-rounder Cameron Green has expressed confidence that Rohit will bounce back.
The MI opener has scored only 184 runs at 18.39 and a strike rate of 126.89. In his last two matches against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rohit was dismissed for a 3-ball duck to become the player with the most ducks (16) in IPL history. Talking about Rohit's dismal form, Aussie gun Green said that the team fully backs him, adding that he has batted beautifully in a few games.
"We know the allegiance of Rohit with Mumbai Indians and everything that he has done in his career. So, we absolutely back him. He can come back and perform for us, he has batted beautifully in a few games, showing really good tempo on the top. So, we back Rohit all the way,” the 23-year-old said at a press conference ahead of MI's game against RCB.
"We have to put our best performances out there": Green
When MI and RCB meet on May 9th at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, a win is crucial for both sides as the playoff race tightens. Earlier on April 2, when the two met at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB won by eight wickets in a one-sided match. However, the five-time champions MI will look to exact their revenge at their fortress on Tuesday night.
Both RCB and MI are coming after defeats in their previous matches. MI lost by six wickets against CSK on Saturday and would be eager to get back on track. Meanwhile, Green feels that the players would have learned their lesson from the previous matches and will give their best effort in the upcoming games.
“Hopefully everything we learned in the first 10 games holds us in good stead for the rest of the season, that’s going to be ruthless where if you win a game you’re second and if you lose, you’re second last. We have to put our best performances out there and we have an incredible team when we perform, so we’re going to back ourselves,” said Green.
Here's how fans reacted to Green's statement:
