Amid reports that KL Rahul will likely miss the Asia Cup 2023, the star wicket-keeper batter paid a visit to Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple in Karnataka. Rahul has not been included in the Indian squad for the West Indies tour starting in July and is unlikely to be ready in time for the continental tournament, which is just a month away.

The Karnataka-born cricketer got injured during an IPL match, had thigh surgery, and is now rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Rahul was included in the squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia earlier this month but was replaced by Ishan Kishan as he was not fully fit. As he will likely miss the Asia Cup, selectors will have a major headache as Team India prepares for the 50-over World Cup.

Can India fill the void left by Rahul and Shreyas Iyer?

Following the update on Rahul's recovery process, reports surfaced that India's middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will likely miss the Asia Cup 2023. Both the right-handed batters were expected to return to Indian colours during the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournament, but it is unknown how long it will take them to get back on the field.

Iyer is also currently in the recovery process following back surgery in April. The 28-year-old was forced to miss the three-match ODI series against Australia, IPL 2023, and the WTC final. “Iyer recently took an injection for his back pain at the Indian Cricket Board’s National Cricket Academy. His back is still giving him trouble,” a source told The Times of India.

The absence of Rahul and Iyer will be a major loss for India in the upcoming tournaments, and all focus will be now on Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson, who will likely feature against West Indies in the July series.
