Rohit Sharma dominated the Pakistan bowling attack to reach his 50th ODI half-century on Sunday, 10 September. Sharma, who opened the innings with Shubman Gill batted impressively to put India ahead in the early overs of the match. In a stark contrast to the team's group stage match against Pakistan, Sharma looked assured and put away any bad balls bowled by the Pakistan pacers - Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah.

After being forced to bat first at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium, Rohit faced off left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi in the first over. Rohit was careful with his approach in the first over and Shaheen seemed confident to start the game with a maiden over. But Rohit ended the over with a six off Shaheen to open his and India's account in style

In feet to this Rohit has reached two milestones in this match, where he becomes the first batter to smash a six in first over of Shaeen Afridi till the date. He also scored a half century which is his 50th half century. By this he also inched forward to reach his 10,000 ODI runs mark.

India lost both openers after blistering start

Rohit smacked three fours and a six in the opening 10 overs, demonstrating his assurance in his attack today. Notably, he appeared to be in excellent rhythm with aerial shots and didn't attempt a single run during power play at-bats. Shaheen was also taken out in the powerplay overs by Shubman Gill, who smashed him for six fours in two straight overs. Due to early pressure from India's blistering start, Pakistani skipper Babar Azam had to bring in pace all-rounder Faheem Ashraf after just six overs of play.

After the blistering start both the Indian batsmen have scored half centuries before they depart. Rohit Sharma who scored 56(49) was caught by Ashraf in the bowling of Shadab Khan who was proven expensive till now. Very soon Shubman Gill also departed scoring 58(52) in S Afridi’s bowling. Kohli and Rahul started to rebuild the innings.
