The third edition of Global T20 (GT20) Canada was won by Montreal Tigers, as they defeated Surrey Jaguars by five wickets in the finals. West Indies cricketer Sherfane Rutherford was presented with ½ acres of land in the USA for the Player of the Series award. He scored 220 runs, including an unbeaten 38 in a last-ball finish in the finals.

It is pertinent to mention that Rutherford is known for his stints in Indian Premier League (IPL) with Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore, and he got recognition again for his performance in GT20 Canada. Speaking of the game, Star West Indies player Andre Russell's last-ball heroics for the Montreal Tigers helped them lift the trophy in Global T20 Canada by beating the Surrey Jaguars.

Russell's all-round performance was crucial for the Tigers in the final, as with the ball he registered a figure of 1/24 in four overs. In the chase, 13 runs were needed in the last over, and the 35-year-old hit the last ball six to chase the target of 131 runs.

Sherfane Rutherford and Andre Russell's innings helped their side win GT20 Canada

West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford's inning of unbeaten 38*(29) was crucial for the Montreal-based side in chasing down the target. He stepped in for the team at the crucial moment, hitting boundaries in between and, when required, launching the shot for six. The skipper of Tigers, Chris Lynn innings at the top of the order were also important as his opening partner, Muhammad Waseem, was dismissed in the very first over.

At the start of the play, the Tigers won the toss and elected to field first at the CAA Centre, Brampton. The Jaguars made 130/5 in their 20 overs, as their openers Mohammad Haris 23 (22) and Jatinder Singh 56 (57) contributed with the bat. Later in the innings, Ayaan Khan's 26(15) helped them reach a decent total.

It was the third edition of the league, which consisted of a total of six teams and a total of 25 games played in the city of Brampton over 17 days period. Interestingly, this was also the first-ever title for the Montreal-based side. In the inaugural season, Vancouver won the title, and then in the next edition, the Winnipeg Hawks.
