'A little weird' - Shubman Gill's exclusion from ODI squad for Bangladesh series sparks speculations

As India announced the squad for the New Zealand and Bangladesh series, many hit back at the selectors for snubbing Prithvi Shaw, the talented youngster, yet again. However, the chief selector Chetan Sharma was quick enough to retaliate saying that he will get his chance soon.

The chief selector said that the right-handed batter would get the national call-up at the earliest and assured fans of getting him into the squad. Chetan also said that the selectors are looking if others are getting equal chances to represent the nation.

“He is going well. He is doing nothing wrong at all. The thing is that we have to see whether the guys who are playing are also getting their chances. He will definitely get his chance,” Chetan was quoted as saying.

Shubman Gill’s silent snub for Bangladesh ODI series

While many were voicing out in support of Prithvi Shaw, a few were quick enough to point out the fact that Shubman Gill was snubbed from the ODI squad for the Bangladesh series. While the talented batter is a part of the squad for the Tests, fans were puzzled if there were any specific reasons for snubbing him from the ODIs.

While the Indian Cricket Board is yet to clarify the same, fans started coming up with speculations and a few wondered if he would be selected for the 2023 50-over World Cup. The Indian star has been in good form in the format as he bagged the Player of the Series award against West Indies and Zimbabwe earlier this year.

Averaging around 75 in the format this year, Gill has gathered 530 runs. He reached his first-ever international three-figure mark in the third ODI against Zimbabwe in August, this year. Despite his strong international records, Gill’s exclusion from the team for the Bangladesh ODI series alone has anguished his fans.

Happy for Shubman Gill, hope he makes the opportunities count. Even for Shreyas Iyer, who gets trolled unnecessarily in spite of good form. Also weird that Gill isn't there for Bangladesh ODIs.
