Rohit Sharma’s exclusion from the 3^rd ODI against Bangladesh due to a thumb injury gave a massive chance to Ishan Kishan. With the series already lost, it was a chance for players to put forth their name for a regular spot in the team.

To say that Kishan grabbed his chances would be a huge understatement. The southpaw after opening the innings for India brought out a sensational double century breaking many records in the process. The 24-year-old made 210 runs in 131 balls with half of 24 fours and 10 centuries.

The foremost record that Ishan Kishan’s double hundred broke was Chris Gayle’s fastest double century. In just 126 balls, Kishan got to his double century edging past Gayle’s record of doing the same in 138 balls. Gayle had reached the 200 mark against Zimbabwe in 2015.

Additionally, Kishan also broke past compatriot Virender Sehwag’s 175 which was the highest individual score by an Indian in Bangladesh. That was however not all. Kishan’s 210 also broke the record for the highest individual score in Bangladesh by any batter. Earlier, this record was held by Australia’s Shane Watson who scored an unbeaten 185 in 2011.

Even former captain Saurav Ganguly had to make way for Kishan as he surpassed the legendary batter to become India’s highest individual run scorer as an opener in a foreign condition. Ganguly had held that record for years after he made 193 against Sri Lanka in Taunton in 1999.
