India are on a tour of England where they would play a solo rescheduled Test match against the English side. This match was a part of the five-match Test series in 2021 but was postponed due to a COVID outbreak in the Indian camp.
India are leading the five-match Test series by a 2-1 margin and this would be a chance to take the series home. Meanwhile, England could draw the series with a win. England are currently playing a series against New Zealand at home and have already won it.
England pitches are known to be very difficult to bat on for Indian subcontinent players who are used to play at slow and turning pitches. This is why players who do well in SENA countries (South Africa England New Zealand and Australia) are considered very good at their craft. In this post, we will look at the Indian batters with the most number of runs against England in a Test series.
- 655 Runs- Virat Kohli (2016)
Virat Kohli was in a form of his life in the England Tour of India in 2016. Against England, the Indian batter was able to make 655 runs in five matches at an average of 109. He also came up with the highest score of 235. India won the series 4-0 on the back of Kohli’s performance.
2. 602- Rahul Dravid (2002)
The great wall of India, Rahul Dravid graces many records. One such record is when he made 602 runs in the series against England in 2002. His average throughout the series was 100, with a high score of 217. India drew the four-match Test series 1-1 where two matches were drawn.
3. 593 Runs- Virat Kohli (2018)
Virat Kohli also came up with a record-breaking run aggregate in the 2018 series against England in the Pataudi trophy. In five games, he was able to amass 593 runs against quality English bowlers. His average was 59.30 and also had a high score of 149. The closest batter who came to Kohli’s total was Jonny Bairstow with 349 runs. Despite his batting masterclass, however, India lost the series 1-4.
