The Indian T20 League 2023 is just a month away and the teams are getting things sorted after a busy auction that saw players going for record bids. Much to the surprise of the fans, it was star English allrounder Sam Curran who made it to the Punjab franchise with a bid of ₹18.5 crore and created history.
However, while entertainment can be a factor in Indian T20 League’s rise, there are dark sides to the T20 extravaganza as well. Cheerleaders, often spotted at the boundary, are still coming up with stories that come to be shocking for the fans as they open up on their dark experiences.
Here are three occasions from cheerleaders revealed the dark side of the Indian T20 League:
3) Breach of rights:
One could predict that cheerleaders often come closer to the fans as the spectators at the boundaries get to witness the art much closer as compared to those in the top tiers. However, there have been cases when cheerleaders expressed concerns about breaching their rights and being looked at as a sexual objects.
Further, there is a revelation about a police search conducted in their room during one of the seasons, where one of the cheerleaders complained about their rights getting breached time and time again, in vain as the management is yet to take firm action on the same.
2) Inappropriate behaviour:
The highly competitive tournament, as one could expect, be a stressing tournament and the players give in their best efforts day in and out. To relax them post the conclusion of each match, after-contest parties were arranged and as one could predict, it might be dangerous for the women.
A cheerleader named Gabriella Pasqualotto opened up on after-match parties and claimed that a few South African and Australian players went a bit over the board with them after consuming too much alcohol during one of those parties, which broke the internet to become the most debated cricket news at that time.
1) Delayed payments in Indian T20 League
As one could expect, the cheerleaders go unnoticed more often than not with the cricketers getting all the recognition they want. In one such instance, a couple of years ago, cheerleaders signed up with the Rajasthan franchise claimed that they get delayed payments most of the time or do not get them at all.
Glamour and the Indian T20 League go hand in hand and cheerleaders are no exception to the same as they get exploited by the world, without their concern on most occasions and get ignored in return with the management failing to do its duty.
