Ram Arvindh (Source: Twitter)Ram Arvindh of Lyca Kovai Kings set the new record for the fastest fifty of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 as he scored an unbeaten 22-ball fifty against Salem Spartans. The 22-year-old surpassed the record created by Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore of IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, who had scored a fifty in 23 deliveries against Ba11sy Trichy. Ram’s efforts helped Lyca Kovai Kings to beat Salem Spartans by a margin of 79 runs.
Batting first, the Kings had a good start, as they were 90/1 after the first 10 overs. Suddenly, three wickets fell in the following fifteen deliveries that, reduced the run rate and put pressure back on Kings. That’s when Arvindh walked in and played his shots straight away. The fifth wicket partnership between Ram and Atheeq lasted for 25 deliveries and yielded 39 runs. Shahrukh Khan walked in and played second fiddle to Ram.
A strong finish in death overs
Kovai Kings required a strong finish, which Ram provided. Against the attack consisting of Abhishek Tanwar, Sunny Sandhu, M Ganesh Moorthi, Rajendran Karthikeyan, Sachin Rathi, Akash Sumra, and Kaushik Gandhi, the young batter played a terrific knock, hitting all the bowlers on his way. In the last 3 overs, the Kings scored 52 runs. As a result, Kovai Kings had a great finish in the death overs that helped them post a target of 199/8 in their 20 overs.
Coming in at 6, Arvindh scored two boundaries and five sixes. The blazing knock of the youngster came at a strike rate of 227.27. Out of the fifty runs scored 38 runs came just from the boundaries. The record created by Sai Kishore was broken in less than 48 hours. The aggressive knock lower the order helped the Kings gain momentum in their innings. When Salem batters came to bat, the pressure of chasing the big target was visible. The Kings reduced the Spartans to 28/4 in no time.
The game was pretty much done and dusted at that stage. In the end, the Kings won the game comfortably. Ram Arvindh was named the player of the match for his splendid knock.
