A solid foundation of experience, locally produced talent, and young players make up MI New York's 18-player roster. This is a trait shared by all the MI teams, which compete in a total of three continents, four nations, and five distinct leagues. The coaching staff for MI New York's debut season has also been revealed along with the roster of players.
The legendary Kieron Pollard of the Mumbai Indians will lead the team, and former West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran and Afghanistan's T20 star Rashid Khan are also on the squad. Trent Boult, a fast bowler from New Zealand, and the Australian team of Tim David, a power hitter, and Jason Behrendorff, a pacer, will join them.
Dewald Brevis, a budding star from South Africa, speed wonder Kagiso Rabada, as well as Namibian all-rounder David Wiese, whom has previously played for South Africa, will also be on the team. With the exception of David Wiese, all of the players split their time between the Mumbai Indians, MI Cape Town, and MI Emirates, establishing a solid core for MI internationally.
Kieron Pollard spent 13 Indian Premier League seasons playing for the Mumbai Indians before announcing his retirement and assuming the position of batting coach. Trent Boult as well as Nicholas Pooran also played cricket for him when he led MI Emirates and is still active in international competition.
Jason Behrendorff, Tim David, as well as Dewald Brevis are Mumbai Indians players, with Tim and Dewald joining Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada from MI Cape Town. In each of the previous two T20 World Cups, seasoned all-rounder David Wiese proved to be a crucial component in Namibia's ascent on the international stage.
The first two USA-born players selected by MI New York were previous skipper Steven Taylor, all-rounder Nosthush Kenjige, current USA skipper Monank Patel, wicketkeeper Shayan Jahangir, and fast bowler Kyle Phillip during the MLC draught on March 19, 2023.
