20-20 World Cup 2022: Details on teams, schedule and groups

The 20-20 World Cup is set to get underway on October 16, Sunday and the teams are bracing for the showpiece event. Nevertheless, it will be an entertaining tournament and the previous edition of the 20-20 World Cup played in UAE turned out to be a cracker of a tournament.

Australia, the defending champions, are early favourites to win the tournament alongside India, Pakistan and England. However, fans and cricketers believe New Zealand and South Africa can be a dark horses going into the tournament.

With just less than 24 hours to go to the start of the showpiece event, let us take a few things that one must know about the tournament.

20-20 World Cup Teams

Here are the 16 teams involved in the tournament: Namibia, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Scotland, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Australia, England, New Zealand, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, South Africa

20-20 World Cup Group

16 teams will take part in the tournament, out of which, the top eight have already qualified for the tournament. With regards to the remaining eight, they will play the qualifiers first divided into two groups and the top two from each group will qualify for the Super 12 round.

Group A: Namibia, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates

Group B: Ireland, Scotland, West Indies, Zimbabwe.

Top eight teams

The top eight teams will play in the Super 12 stage and they will play along with the winners and runners of each group from the qualifiers.

Group A: Afghanistan, Australia, England, New Zealand, A1, B2

Group B: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, South Africa, A2, B1
