In a thrilling contest between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday, the former cruised to a 14-run victory and registered their third straight win in the ongoing Indian Premier League. MI handed SRH their third loss of the tournament, thanks to a match-winning performance by Australian all-rounder Cameron Green at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

The Aussie gun, who is playing his maiden IPL season, was trolled by fans for not contributing much in his initial matches for MI. However, he proved his worth by winning the Player of the Match award for an outstanding display with both bat and bowl in the 25th match of IPL 2023 against SRH.

Batting first, MI posted a commendable total on the back of Green's blistering half-century along with handy contributions from Ishan Kishan (38 off 31) and Tilak Varma (37 off 17). Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 28 after giving the team a brisk start, while Kishan was a bit cautious in his approach. Green was promoted to No. 3 and proved the captain's decision was correct, scoring a superb 64* off 40 balls, including two sixes and six fours.

The right-hander, who hit his maiden IPL fifty in just 33 balls, counter-attacked with Tilak Varma (37 off 17) to put up a 50-plus partnership for the fourth wicket. After Verma's dismissal in the 17th over, Tim David played a valuable knock, scoring 16 off 11 balls to take the team to a comfortable score.

Chasing a huge total of 193, Jason Behendroff gave an early breakthrough for the visitors by dismissing the in-form Harry Brook in the second over. Wickets were falling at regular intervals, but the SRH batters gave a little scare towards the end of the innings as they came close to achieving the target. However, the MI bowlers held their nerve and won the thriller.

Green was also expectational with ball, as the 23-year-old conceded just 29 runs in his four overs and claimed one wicket. After winning the PoM award, Green said:

"I think first couple of games were a learning curve for me and our team. Bit of a sticky situation (when I walked out to bat). But glad the plans came off. I am a work in progress with my bowling at the death. Obviously, we can continue with the winning momentum."
