Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday produced another run fest for cricket fans, with a total of 444 runs including 33 sixes from both sides. The clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is always a crowd-puller, and we saw a similar scenario yesterday as the stadium was packed with red and yellow jerseys. The game, as usual, did not disappoint cricket fans, but the outcome was not what RCB fans expected, as their team lost by 8 runs to their arch-rivals.

Although the match was played at RCB's home ground, it felt like both the teams were playing on a neutral venue as supporters from the two southern states witnessed the high-voltage encounter. The CSK fan base is largely due to their skipper MS Dhoni, affectionately called 'Thala'; and it is no surprise that CSK fans have flocked to their neighbouring state to watch the two greats - MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli - play each other, probably for the last time.

Batting first, CSK got off to a flying start with a blistering performance from the top-order and middle-order batters. But after the first half of their innings, chants of "We want Dhoni" echoed around the Chinnaswamy Stadium. They were waiting for Dhoni to enter at the crease, and when Glenn Maxwell dismissed Ravindra Jadeja in the 19.4th ball, the fans erupted, seeing their beloved 'Thala' walk into the middle.

Meanwhile, the camera fan focused on an ardent fan of Dhoni holding a poster that said he had travelled from Goa to meet his idol, and the picture went viral on social media in no time. "I sold my bike just to see Thala Dhoni all the way from Goa," he wrote on the banner. Even if he only gets to see one ball of Dhoni, he will be happy to see his team win in a thrilling encounter.

Du Plessis-Maxwell century partnership went in vain

Chasing 228 runs, RCB suffered an early setback when they lost Virat Kohli for 6 runs in the first over. With Glenn Maxwell coming to the crease, the overseas batters of RCB decided to attack the CSK bowlers. Du Plessis (62 off 33) and Maxwell’s (76 off 36) carnage brought RCB back into the game as they put on a 126-run third-wicket partnership.

After their dismissal, Dinesh Karthik and Suyash Prabhudessai played a fighting knock in the end to take their team home, but CSK bowlers tightened the screws in the death overs. Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana were outstanding for CSK, taking key wickets in the end and not giving out easy runs.
